Growing Up in a World of Amber

Welcome to Ravgaard, I am so happy you have found your way to my little universe!

My name is Christine Ravgård Lavrsen. In 1986, I was born at Ravgården, and 18 years later, I set off on new adventures. In 2024, a new journey began – this time back to my roots, as the 4th generation of amber polishers.
So come along — let the golden glow of amber guide you, inspire you, and maybe even spark a little magic of your own…

  • Christine Ravgård Lavrsen

Christine is the 4th generation in the Ravgård family and the voice behind our online universe. With deep roots in the family’s amber legacy, she shares their story with the world — digitally, sincerely, and with a love for the authentic.

  • Erik Ravgård Christiansen

Erik has worked with amber for over four decades and is both a true craftsman and an artist at heart. He not only preserves traditional polishing techniques but also brings creativity into the workshop through woodturning — letting nature guide the form and expression of every piece.

  • Margit Ravgaard Christiansen

Margit is the one who brings it all together — the calm force behind our design and assembly. With a sharp eye for harmony, elegance, and detail, she turns pearls, silver, and amber into wearable stories, always guided by the customer’s wishes.

100 years of amber history

Amber. Crafted by hand. Passed down through generations.

Ravgaard is not a brand built overnight. It is a family story — one that begins on the windswept shores of Læsø in 1925 and continues today through four generations of amber artisans.

A Century of Amber Craftsmanship

In 1925, Christian Martinus Christiansen began polishing amber on the island of Læsø — a craft he would dedicate nearly five decades of his life to. His work earned quiet renown: among those who received a piece was Winston Churchill himself. A curated collection of his amber was donated to Hjemstavnsgården museum, where it remains a testament to his artistry.

His son, Laurits Christian Christiansen, carried the tradition forward from 1963 to 1973, refining the family's deep knowledge of Baltic amber and its natural beauty.

The third generation brought the craft to a new chapter. In 1980, Erik Ravgård Christiansen — who has been polishing amber since 1974 — opened Ravgården, a dedicated amber workshop in Sønderlev, together with his wife Margit. What began as a workshop grew into something more: a living destination for amber lovers, complete with a museum, a remarkable 12,000-litre freshwater aquarium with large amber pieces hidden among the stones and plants, and a flower garden that welcomes visitors from near and far.

The Fourth Generation

Christine Ravgård Lavrsen, born in 1986, grew up surrounded by amber dust and the quiet hum of the polishing wheel. Today, she leads Ravgaard into its next era — bringing the family's handcrafted pieces to the world through ravgaard.com.

The values remain unchanged: natural materials, honest craftsmanship, and jewellery made to be worn and treasured for a lifetime.
